The garden strawberry (or simply strawberry; Fragaria × ananassa)[1] is a widely grown hybrid species of the genus Fragaria, collectively known as the strawberries, which are cultivated worldwide for their fruit. The fruit is widely appreciated for its characteristic aroma, bright red color, juicy texture, and sweetness. It is consumed in large quantities, either fresh or in such prepared foods as jam, juice, pies, ice cream, milkshakes, and chocolates. Artificial strawberry flavorings and aromas are also widely used in products such as candy, soap, lip gloss, perfume, and many others.


The garden strawberry was first bred in Brittany, France, in the 1750s via a cross of Fragaria virginiana from eastern North America and Fragaria chiloensis, which was brought from Chile by Amédée-François Frézier in 1714. Cultivars of Fragaria × ananassa have replaced, in commercial production, the woodland strawberry (Fragaria vesca), which was the first strawberry species cultivated in the early 17th century

How to MakeYellow Cake with Fresh Strawberries

 This strawberry cake recipe is a showstopper! It's moist and delicious - and not too sweet. Make this pretty, tasty dessert quickly and easily.

  • PREP TIME 10 minutes
  • COOK TIME 30 minutes
  • TOTAL TIME 40 minutes


Ingredients :

  • 9 oz yellow cake mix, (I used 1 box Jiffy yellow cake mix)
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 3 T confectioners sugar
  • 1 quart strawberries, (washed, tops removed and sliced)

Instructions :

  1. Grease and flour an 8 or 9" square cake pan. I suggest lining the bottom with parchment paper (grease and flour the paper) or the cake will most likely stick.
  2. Prepare and bake cake according to package directions. Remove from oven and let cool completely. Remove cake from pan, if desired.
  3. Using a mixer, beat cream and sugar until stiff peaks form, about 4-6 minutes. Spread on top of cake.
  4. Use a slicer to slice strawberries thin and place in any pattern you wish, onto your cake.
  5. Serves 9.
